THE COLOUR PURPLE...

Today’s post is sort of a combination of the “30 days of thanksgiving” as well as what I had originally planned to post about.

I am proudly South African and believe I live in one of the most amazing countries in the world.  I love to travel and see new places, experience new things and discover new foods but there is nothing like coming home to Africa and more importantly to the beautiful city of Pretoria.

I was not born here but have lived here almost 25 years so to me Pretoria is home.  We have the most amazing weather…not too cold in winter and wonderful hot summer days which often end with a theatrical thunderstorm.

One of my favourite months of the year is October because it is when the Jacaranda Trees bloom. This when the Jacaranda city truly lives up to its name and the skyline is cloaked in a sea of purple trees and the streets are blanketed in purple blossoms. There is a belief that for those writing exams if they walk under a Jacaranda tree and a blossom falls on their head they will achieve a distinction in their exams.  So it is only then fitting that the trees bloom during finals for both school goers and university students.  I walked under a tree just before my Afrikaans finals at school and a blossom feel on my head and yeah I got a distinction in Afrikaans…so maybe there is some truth to the story.

Over the weekend I took my camera and went for a drive along some of the streets where the Jacaranda trees are the most dense and beautiful.

Welcome to the Jacaranda City…

The above three  photos were taken using my BlackBerry last year...

I had to source these from the internet because I could not get high enough to take any views of the city...

This was just to pretty to resist...

Day Seven:  I am thankful for the beautiful city I live in.  I love Pretoria and its people.
