MEXICAN FIESTA...

It seems that Katie started a little bit of Mexican theme going in my life.

After the success of our taco team building a friend asked if I would assist her in putting together a Mexican fiesta for her husbands birthday.

We had such great fun cooking and putting everything together and all the chopping, dicing and slicing was rewarded when the birthday boy got home (we arranged for him to spend time with friends so we could set up and prep.  His whole face lit up and he was so excited to see everyone.

I did not take many photos because I am learning that there are really moments when you need to put the camera down and be present in the moment.

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend...

A carrot cake is not Mexican but it was sooooooo good!!

OH SWEET LORRAINE - A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY...

On this fabulous Friday, I have a fabulous love story for you...Have a blessed weekend.

Man, 96, Writes Tribute Song to Late Wife

By Christina Ng | ABC News Blogs – 23 hours ago

When Green Shoe Studio advertised in Illinois for a singer-songwriter competition, it received an unexpected entry.
It was from a 96-year-old Peoria resident named Fred Stobaugh. His wife of nearly 73 years had recently died, and he saw the ad for the contest in the newspaper.

"After she passed away, I was just sitting in the front room one evening by myself, and it just came right to me," Stobaugh said in a Green Shoe Studio video, which has been viewed more than half a million times.

The contest asked for people to submit YouTube videos of them performing their entries.
"Instead of a video, we received a very large manila envelop with the letter he [Stobaugh] sent us," Green Shoe Studio producer Jacob Colgan said in the video. "It was just so heartwarming, and we said, 'Fred, we're going to record your song."

Stobaugh had written on the envelope, "P.S. I don't sing. I would scare people. Ha-ha."

"It was just so cute how he wrote it," Colgan told ABC News. "He wanted her to know that he loved her still."
The song is called "Sweet Lorraine" and included the lines, "Oh, sweet Lorraine, I wish we could do all the good times all over again."
"We met up with him a couple times and just kind of played
some songs back and forth," Colgan said of the process of turning Stobaugh's lyrics into a professionally produced song.

"He decided to put it to a guitar so I brought my guitar and just messed with it for a week or so," Colgan said. "He really wanted to do a good job and stay true to his original lyrics."
Stobaugh met his wife, Lorraine, in 1938 when she was a car hop at the A&W root beer stand.

"She was just the prettiest girl I ever saw," Stobaugh said. "I just fell in love with her right there."
The couple dated for two years and then got married.
The music studio set Stobaugh's lyrics to music and recorded the song with professional musicians and a professional singer.

When Stobaugh heard the song for the first time, he cried.
"It was a wonderful 75 years," he said. "I really, really miss her."

The song "Oh Sweet Lorraine" is available for purchase on iTunes.

PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN...

Tomorrow South Africa celebrates the 19th anniversary of our first democratic elections.

1994 was a tremendous year in our history and one that will stand out as challenging, nation building and one that used the bricks of the past to lay the foundation of the future. I have shared my respect for our Constitutional Court and I am shameless about being in love with the beauty of the country I live in but what I am most passionate about is the people of this land.

There is a lot of politics around Freedom day and a lot of politics in our everyday lives as we strive towards a better tomorrow but that is not what I celebrate on freedom day.  On Freedom day I celebrate our rainbow nation.

To be a South African means that you have lived through great pain and now it is time to live great joy.  Being a South African means that you have heart, you have a fighting spirit and a “can do attitude. Being South African sets you apart from the rest of the world because here at the tip of Africa we have learnt what it means to work hard, to seize opportunities and to conquer our fears.

This ad is being flighted for Freedom day and every time I see it I get goosies, my eyes fill with tears and my heart fills with pride……My name is Lisa and I am South African!!!

Featured in the advert are some “famous” South Africans:

Baby Jakes Matlala

Natalie du Toit

Fatima Vasdla

FABULOUS FRIDAY...

Thank you so much for all the emails I received pertaining to my post yesterday.  Oscar appeared in court this morning and the prosecution has made it clear that they will be chasing a charge of premeditated murder.

He was in tears this morning in court and I believe from the tweets from reporters that he cried and shook through most of the proceedings. There is a lot more to this case than has been revealed and it is all very very sad.  But at the end of the day I stand by what I said yesterday: A young women's life has ended and a young man's life is forever changed.

So putting all that aside it is Friday everyone....have a blessed weekend!!!

FABULOUS FRIDAY...

Today is my last official working day of the year.  I have scheduled my nervous breakdown for tomorrow morning......I joke but I am in desperate need of a break.  Between the incredible pressure of work which spanned the entire year and resulted in 347 overtime hours (which I am not paid for in case you thought I was getting rich), my dad's health issues since July and my Nanna's passing I feel drained.

Dad has also been very sick this past week and on more than one occasion I thought I was going to have to make another trip to the ER before the year was over.  As a result I have not slept more than five hours since Saturday.  I can't tell you what it felt like on Tuesday when I had to leave my very sick dad ALONE at home to go bury my Nanna.  I was so torn and so conflicted. I have still not really had the time to mourn or just to deal with anything really and this has got me feeling like I am in a washing machine which is set on the spin cycle....I need a time out!!

In other news it seems like the end of the world is not actually happening today...I knew it wouldn't because I have tickets for Bon Jovi in May 2013 and the universe cannot be that cruel..plus I have shoes to suit the world ending but what outfit does one wear....I am pretty sure I don't have anything suitable!!

So if the world end's it will have to do so without me because I have NOTHING to wear!!!

While I am taking some time off I am going to take some time off from blogging...not completely but there will not be daily posts as usual only sporadic ones.

So have a fabulous Friday everyone and a blessed weekend...

FABULOUS FRIDAY...

This post may be called fabulous Friday but it so isn't a fabulous day. It was my nanna's 88th birthday yesterday and even though I was our year end function I made sure to call her.  When I sat back down with my colleagues I realised I had not told nanna that I love her so I called her back to do so.

I am so glad I did because this morning at 03:30 nanna suffered a massive stroke and is now in ICU.

Along with this is the fact that I am snowed under at work as this is the busiest time of the year for us.  I have to draft, merge, print and hand out 508 bonus/increase letters by no later than Tuesday afternoon.  Problem is I don't have the final figures yet and I have redraft all the letters I have done because there have been changes.  This means I have to work all weekend and I am not sure how I am going to get to my nan who is about an hour and a half away from me.

So I wish you all a blessed weekend and ask that you pray for me as I struggle to not lose my mind...

FABULOUS FRIDAY...

Day Thirty:  Gosh I am not sure how we got to day 30 but here we are.  So lastly but certainly by no means least I am thankful for technology.

Social media allows me to not only stay on top of whats happening in the world but more importantly it keeps me in touch with what is happening in the lives of family and friends.  BBM and Whatsapp allows me to stay in touch with family and other loved ones staying overseas in a quick and inexpensive manner.

Last night I used FaceTime to talk to my cousins in Doha and on Sunday night my aunt was able to meet her granddaughter through Skype.  A couple of weekends ago I "attended" a friends wedding in Texas while staying in Pretoria through webcam.

Technology has made the world a much smaller place and on some level it has brought people together again because keeping in touch is so much easier.

So I am thankful for technology which allows me to keep in touch, stay connected with my loved ones.

Have a Fabulous Friday and a blessed weekend...

FABULOUS FRIDAY...

Day Twenty three: I am very thankful for cooler weather.  After a heat wave struck us for most of this week it was wonderful to wake up to cooler temps today.  I don’t like to sweat which is why I don’t like to go to gym and in this hot weather that’s pretty much all you do.  My grandmother used to say that “Women glow, men perspire and horses sweat”…my gran would be so disappointed in me...To much information?????

Have a Fabulous Friday and a blessed weekend.

FABULOUS FRIDAY...

The weather is a little gloomy out and there is a chill in the air but hey hey it’s Friday!!  And you know what that means…

I love that Fridays bring with them a relaxed attitude, corporate employees like myself put on jeans and flats instead of a business look with heels, radios seem to be played a little louder, people smile more and the air is filled with the promise of fun and excitement.

The tips of my shoes are a colour between shocking yellow and lime green but
since the pic was taken with my BB it is not coming out nicely!!

Day Nine: I am thankful for Fridays and the positive vibe that comes with them. I kinda wish every day could be Friday!!

Have a Fabulous Friday everyone and a blessed weekend.

FABULOUS FRIDAY...

I hope that you have all gotten through the week unscathed, even though it was filled with witches, vampires, ghosts, pumpkins and candy...lots of candy!!  I must say that I am really thankful that the weekend arrived when it did because I have bronchitis once AGAIN!!  I could use some down time but my weekend "to do" list is a mile long and I have to put a major dent in it!!

So have a Fabulous Friday all and a blessed weekend...
