CHOOSEDAY...

There are some days when my brain is so full of thoughts and my spirit so filled with emotion that I battle to write about it.  It seems to be all jumbled up inside and getting it out takes and industrial strength can opener.

Today is one of those days.  Although dad is doing better for which I am very grateful, we are still not sleeping much and at work I am dealing with a complex and sensitive disciplinary matter.

When working with a case like this I have to put "Lisa" on the back burner and push not only my inner control freak but also my inner dictator. I have to act in a very clinical and logical manner and lets be honest I don't excel at logic.

I am an emotional person who becomes emotionally involved with those around me and as such I find it exhausting to be factual and precise and ummmm think like an attorney would (no offence to attorneys of course)!!!

But this morning as I was going through my final prep for the inquiry I realised that this is what I am paid to do.  I am paid to put my emotional connections aside at times and take the company's side. Most of the time there is a balance between being for the people and being for the company but today was not one of those days......it was time to put on my big girl panties and earn my salary!!

All of this made me think of a song by Heather Small called "What have you done today to make you feel proud". I have listened to this song a couple of times over the years but don't think the words really struck me until today.

The video was selected because I could not find the
original video for the song and because....well
I am a Princess Di fan and believe she made
a difference!!

So often we forget what a privileged it is to have a job.  Sure, we don't always enjoy what we do and more often than not it is not what we are most passionate about.  However, having said that I am passionate about people and my job lets me work with them on a daily basis.

My job allows me to effect change, to make a difference in granted small ways but still to make a difference and at least once a day I get to touch the lives of those around me in a positive and meaningful way.

By doing the best not only for the company but the best for the employees I am doing my job to the best of my ability and I should feel proud.

I don't enjoy disciplinary matters especially when they result in a dismissal but the long and the short of it is, I did not bring about the situation, I am just tasked to sort it out.

I CHOOSE to tackle each day in such a manner that when the sunsets I can look back on the day and list what I did in that day which makes me proud. This extends from the work I deliver to my attitude towards what I am tasked to do.

I CHOOSE to remember that having a job is a blessing and that I need to respect the trust and responsibility which has been given to me.

CHOOSE to make myself and those around me proud by the way I conduct myself in tough business situations and above all I CHOOSE to remember that LISA adds value!!

What have you done today to make you feel proud?

What a great flip in perspective.

its definitely hard to be in that role, but I have no doubt you were able to shut off the emotional side and be who they needed you to be, not to mention believed you could be (or they wouldn't have hired you, right? ;)

Hopefully things can resume back to normal once this disciplinary action is over and done at your job.
